Lunch Money

Having worked her way up to Assistant Director of Food Services at the high school, 62-year-old Marilyn hires her handful-of-a-sister Jackie to keep an eye on her. Just as the two of them are about to be charged with embezzlement, Charlie shows up in search of her birth mother. Complicating matters are the boarders of Marilyn’s house, a rag-tag group of family-less senior citizens who have part time jobs in the school cafeterias.

Synopsis:

Marilyn and her combative sister Jackie are charged with embezzling funds from the school cafeterias they manage. Employing seniors in her high school lunch room, Marilyn takes these women in as boarders, all while endeavoring to keep an eye on Jackie’s unpredictable antics. In the midst of the gang preparing for the school’s annual staff talent show, a young woman named Charlie shows up looking for her birth mother. Lunch Money is a play about three women who are forced to face their vulnerabilities, yearnings and mistakes in order to find solid ground.

Reviews:

“. . . a varied and interesting set of characters . . . the idea of showing a white collar crime through the lens of a blue collar worker is very interesting, and we were excited to see so many older female roles in one show! We love centering a story on a group of people who are so often overlooked.”
